I am so curious to know about these chips. Clearly you created a holiday card so I am assuming these chips tie into celebrating the holidays. Any chance you could add the reason to the description and satisfy my curiosity? Wonderful vibrant colours.

Cyril Maza replied:

Well… let me think a little bit… Alright! These chips, because of their circular shape, symbolize tokens, coins, or money. There happens to be a superstitious belief, in certain parts of this planet, that a purse filled with coins or money would bring prosperity in the new year. To some people, this superstition extends to their dining tables. In the Philippines, some families fill their dining tables with circular or round-shaped objects and food, such as queso de bola (rounded cheese), jamon de bola (rounded Christmas ham), grapes, apples, and other round-shaped fruits. People may have been doing that now just as a tradition, and perhaps subconsciously. But that tradition may have originated from that superstitious belief.

Cyril Maza replied:

Plastic chips also remind me of certain board games I used to play many years ago. The holiday season is a good time of the year for family reunions. I remember friends and cousins coming over to our place, when I was just a little kid, and we spent time during the holidays playing games.

About Cyril Maza

Cyril Maza

Cyril Maza is a self-taught artist and an engineer. He works as an engineer on week days and paints as an artist during weekends. He has a natural passion to build and to create, and is very much fascinated by activities where ingenuity, imagination, and creativity come into play. His childhood hobbies included drawing, playing mandolin, and solving puzzle games. He also liked to play with common household items, such as paper/cardboard boxes, glass/plastic bottles, wooden blocks, and even books. He would lay them all out on the floor forming a pattern that resembles a city, complete with buildings, roads, and parks. He would be so engulfed in his own little “world,” designing and building his own “city,” that you could leave him...
